There is a definite trend to the manufacturing of packaging products in the US. As in other businesses there is a reduction of companies who still make the goods. Paper is still one major export of the Americas, due to natural resources and infrastructure. While the big companies gobble up the mid size companies we are being left with very large companies that are market controllers (such as bulk produce bins) and smaller companies that specialize in smaller runs of corrugated boxes. The big guys are just not able to respond in a short time any more, they are married to production capabilities, while the small companies require a higher selling price to remain in business.

This applies to other products as well. The current “green” trend needs to be approached carefully as quite a few products are only colored green to inflate their price. There are some new and innovative products coming on the market. Even the old waxed corrugated carton used in the fish and produce industries is attempting to change.

Keep checking back as I will bring you new packaging products in all fields as I learn and understand them!
